Coronation Street star to make shock comeback a year after quitting cobbles
Seamus McGoff, who played tearaway teen Matty in Coronation Street, has announced he is returning to the cobbles a year after leaving the soap. In a social media post, he wrote: “Thank you @coronationstreet for having me back on the cobbles playing Matty Radcliffe! @lucatoolan ya better tell Mason to watch his back.” Sally Dynevor, who has played Sally on Corrie for 38 years, commented on his post, writing: “Well done Seamus xxx.”
Matty was last seen on the series in October 2023, and is set to feature in a storyline involving his brother Mason, as well as Sally and Tim Metcalfe next week. Fans sent their best wishes to Seamus about his return, with one writing: “Super proud of you Séamy. Hard work and dedication has paid off. Very excited to see you on screen,” while another added: “That’s brilliant you two both on there … you will be amazing.”
Next week viewers should also expect drama from the Platt family, following Shona discovering her son Clayton, who is in prison, has attempted suicide. Shona’s husband David has read emails and letters from the prison about Clayton, who killed his first wife Kylie, and decided not to tell Shona about them. Instead he went to visit Clayton himself, and it was after David’s visit that Shona learned that Clayton had been admitted to hospital.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Julia explained that Shona gets a visit from the police while she is at work and they tell her that Clayton is in hospital following a suicide attempt. However, when she gets there to see her son, he doesn’t want to see her. “He is very angry. Unbeknown to her, she has been contacted by him and the prison, so she is very confused. He screams at her to get out. She can't understand why and just wants to be with her son,” she says. "At this point, she knows he has tried to take his own life but can't work out why and why she wasn't told."
Julia also revealed she and Jack P Shepherd, who plays David, have debated which of their characters is in the right at this point. "Jack and I are very much on our own characters' sides in this. We've had barneys in the green room about who's right. When Shona finds out her husband has been gaslighting her and had a part in Clayton trying to take his own life, I dread to think what she's going to do. But I don't think she'll take it lying down.”
