Coronation Street actress 'splits from co-star boyfriend after two years'
Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has reportedly split from her co-star boyfriend after two years together. Elle, 21, and Liam Scholes, 21, are understood to have called it quits, leaving their friends and family shocked.
The actress has played Amy Barlow on Corrie since 2010, with Liam briefly playing Eli Higginson on the Cobbles for six episodes in 2021. The pair had appeared besotted by each other, even celebrating Christmas 2023 together as they shared a snap of them cuddling next to the tree.
However, their romance is believed to have now come to an end, with a source claiming it's come as a surprise to those closest to them. "Elle and Liam were love's young dream and did everything together. Their split has really shocked their co-stars and family, and no one knows exactly what happened," a source told The Sun.
"It was all very sudden, and they have both made it clear to pals it would take a miracle for them to get back together again."
OK! has contacted Elle's representatives for comment.
Elle previously spoke to OK! about how happy she was in her relationship with Liam as she praised him as an actor. She told us in March: “He’s been brilliant... because he’s an actor as well he knows what it entails.
"He’s coped with his fair share of backlash in the past when he played Eli in Corrie. He’s always really supportive, and if I’ve had a bad day he’ll say, ‘Let’s go for a Chinese...’" Asked if it was true love, she replied: “Yes! It’s going well, it’s going very well.”
The pair had recently jetted off to Amsterdam together to celebrate Liam's 21st birthday, with the actor posting a snap to Instagram, which showed him beaming for the camera as they lay among giant teddy bears.
Liam said: "Thank you so much for the birthday wishes everyone. Turning 21 with the best people around me! To my friends, my aunties, my uncles, my cousins, my grandparents, thank you for everything you’ve done for me over the past few years, I wouldn’t be the person I am today without any of you! Now let’s enjoy the Dam."
Elle and Liam became an item after the actress split from her ex-boyfriend Euan after 18 months of dating.
Liam took part in a hate crime storyline during his time on Coronation Street, which saw his character help Corey Brent cover up the murder of Seb Franklin. He has since starred in Waterloo Road and is also in a Manchester indie band called The Lanks.
