Last week, Strava released their ‘Year in Sport’ data, based on the activity of the 73 million users on their platform. This year has seen an exercise boom as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, with 21.5 million uploads to the platform each week.

Globally, this year all the runners on Strava have covered a combined distance of 3.0 billion km. On average, the average distance per run is 6.3km or 6.6km for male runners and 5.5km for female runners.

During a year of local lockdowns, the average run globally was 38 minutes and 48 seconds. According to Strava data, on average, men logged runs that were 39 minutes and 32 seconds, whereas women logged runs that were 37 minutes and 33 seconds.
