Coleen Rooney's 'heartbreak' over devastating miscarriage in I'm A Celeb star's own words
Speaking out about the loss of a baby can be a painful experience. So when Coleen Rooney candidly revealed for the first time in her autobiography that she suffered a miscarriage before welcoming her eldest child, Kai, she was met with empathy. She described the ordeal as a “horrible experience” that left her and husband Wayne “heartbroken”.
A source has told OK! that reliving the trauma has been upsetting for Coleen, who is currently appearing in the I'm A Celeb jungle, and football legend Wayne, who manages Plymouth Argyle. “The miscarriage was very difficult for Coleen to talk about and is something she and Wayne kept very, very private,” said the source.
“This has been really tough for them both.” In her memoir, My Account, Coleen reveals how the end of her first pregnancy at just 10 weeks “knocked Wayne for six, too”.

The couple are now parents to four boys – Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, six, who flew out to Australia with their grandparents to support her in the I'm A Celeb jungle. But despite the joy her sons bring her, the anguish she experienced all those years ago is still with her.
“It was so painful. Coleen and Wayne were both really affected by the miscarriage,” the source continued. “Coleen has the most wonderful family now, but it’s still difficult to talk about her loss. It was a tough time for them both. They were in the limelight, with all the focus on Wayne’s career. It’s been hard for Coleen to talk about what happened after all this time.”
The revelation comes after Coleen, 37, confirmed that her family is complete, revealing in her recent Disney+ documentary that Wayne had a vasectomy after the birth of Cass in 2018. “There was a part of Coleen that always wanted a baby girl,” our source said. “That dream is over now, but she loves her boys so much.”
Coleen’s documentary, The Real Wagatha Story, detailed her infamous 2022 court case against fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy, who sued her for libel following Coleen’s very public accusation that Rebekah’s Instagram account was leaking private details about her to the press, a subject she touched on very briefly in the jungle.
Coleen’s new book delves further into the legal proceedings, telling Coleen’s side of the story, while taking a look at what it was really like behind the scenes as the case played out in the courts.
The book also examines Coleen’s turbulent but now solid relationship with Wayne. The pair have been together since they were just 16 and they were catapulted to fame when Wayne, now 39, began playing for Everton. Schoolgirl Coleen very quickly became a household name alongside her footballer boyfriend.
They tied the knot in 2008, and have weathered quite a storm since, with Coleen standing by her husband throughout numerous cheating scandals over the years. Addressing Wayne’s most high-profile past infidelity, Coleen explains in her book why she made the decision to stick by him.
“The full story was that when he was sixteen, Wayne had visited prostitutes in a Liverpool massage parlour,’ she writes. ‘When Wayne sat me down and told me it was true and that the story was about to break in the national press I was confused and hurt. I couldn’t even speak to him. More than that, I felt ashamed.”
But she adds, “Wayne’s a great dad. Every time he’s gone off the rails, it’s been a stupid, drunken, spur-of-the-moment thing. My message is, if there’s something to work at, if the love’s still there, why would you throw that away? Mistakes have happened, but I’ve always known Wayne’s loved me.”
The pressure of the trial, and of having her personal life dragged into the spotlight, has taken its toll on Coleen at times. But according to our source, the court battle also made her realise how strong she is.
“She and Wayne got through it despite it putting a massive strain on their marriage,” the source told us. “They not only got through the scandals that have rocked their marriage, but they have also coped with the potential emotional fallout caused by the miscarriage.
“Coleen realised that by talking about her experience, and by being open and honest, she can maybe help other women. She wants to help others, and now, just when everyone is listening, it’s the right time to do that.”
The star - thought to be the highest-paid person on I'm A Celebrity this year - is one of the favourites to win the show this year, alongside the likes of McFly's Danny Jones and Love Islander Maura Higgins.
