As the colder weather takes grip, temperatures are falling with parts of Scotland waking up today to a bone-chilling -5 degrees. Despite the chill, we still have to go about our day which means defrosting the car and clearing the iced-over windscreens.

Sitting in the car waiting for the demister to work its magic is time-consuming but one neat trick will speed up this frustrating process. And it doesn't cost a penny.

TikTok user Sara Deutsch posted to advise people to simply lower your sun visors and you'll see an ice-free windscreen much faster. The savvy mum said she posts the same video yearly to teach younger drivers this time-saving, simple hack.

The video sees Sara explain that if you pull both your visors down when you're defrosting your car, then you streamline the air which is better for demisting your windows.

To begin, you should blast the hot air onto the window as normal, but make sure to put your visor down while doing so, which will speed up the defrosting process.

She explained: "So, I do this video every year. If you have a windshield that is frosted over - make sure to put your visors down, so it stops the airflow and it creates a faster defrost on your windshield. If you ever have a sheet of ice on your car or when it's frosted - put the [sun visor] down. Otherwise, you can feel the air come straight up over it."

Sara captioned the TikTok video: "Teen drivers need to know this! Frozen windshields are about to be a thing with all the cold and snow. If you ever have a sheet of ice on your car or when it's frosted - put the [sun visor] down. Otherwise, you can feel the air come straight up over it."

One person said: "That's actually pretty smart." Another joked: "Teens????" And a third added: "36. news to me. I've been using washer fluid." Another impressed motorist wrote: "I'm sorry a teen driver… I just learned this at 32 lol."
