Whether you're a baker or just really enjoy a slice of perfectly buttered toast in the morning, almost everyone has faced the annoyance of chilled butter that's simply too hard to spread.

But, rather than having to wait for it to warm up at room temperature, it turns out there's a clever hack to get your butter to the ultimate temperature, the Mail Online reports.

And you don't even need to stick it in the microwave, so there's no risk of accidentally leaving it too long and turning your butter into a hot puddle.

Food & Wine magazine has put together a handy video with three top tricks for warming up your butter, and one of the hacks really stands out: all you have you to do is fill a glass jug with boiling water, leave it for five minutes before pouring the water away and then placing it on top of your stick for 20 minutes.

Ingenious!

They also tried out a much less appealing trick that involves warming up the butter under your armpit, but there's no way we're trying that one...
