Cindy Crawford on Kaia Gerber Recreating a ‘New Version’ of Her ‘Iconic’ 1992 Pepsi Commercial (Exclusive)
The supermodel's daughter shares with PEOPLE what looks of her mom's she's most keen to recreate
It’s hard for Kaia Gerber to narrow down what looks of her mother’s she’d like to recreate — there are simply too many options.
When asked what 'fits come to mind while at the Planet OMEGA exhibition in New York City, the model daughter of Cindy Crawford tells PEOPLE, “There's so many that I love and that I think are so iconic.”
To narrow it down, Gerber, 22, mentions a few of her supermodel mom’s most iconic looks. “The red Oscars dress I’ve always thought was just so beautiful,” she says, referring to the show-stopping Versace low-back gown Crawford, 57, wore to the Academy Awards in 1991 when she was married to Richard Gere.
Gerber also notes that she loves “a lot” of her mom’s looks from when she hosted MTV’s House of Style for six years in the ‘90s, as well as her iconic 1992 Pepsi commercial.
“But it’s like some things are just so good you don't even want to touch them,” Gerber continues. “And I think some of those moments I'm just like, ‘Leave them there,’ you know?”
Crawford seems to be on board with all her daughter’s ideas, and at the notion of a recreation of the famous ‘90s commercial, she says, “I definitely think the Pepsi thing would be fun.”
However, it would have to be its own thing, the supermodel notes. “But if they're going to do her — it has to be the iconic commercial, but a new version of that.”

Crawford’s Pepsi commercial has been revisited many a time by the supermodel herself, and its most recent revival came this summer as she recreated the scene, but this time she posed for her husband’s tequila brand, Casamigos, which is co-owned by George Clooney.
In 2021, she returned to the original set of the ad to raise money for the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. The cause was near to her heart, as the hospital is where her younger brother was treated for leukemia, which she noted in an Instagram post. He died when she was 10.

She’s also previously said that she’d love for Kaia to get involved in the famous ad.
In 2018, Crawford spoke to PEOPLE as she and her son, Presley Gerber, recreated the ad for Super Bowl LII as part of the brand’s “Pepsi Generations” campaign, which celebrated pop culture icons through the decades, Crawford included.
At the news that her older brother was getting involved, Crawford revealed that Gerber was less than pleased.
“I was saying to Kaia, ‘Presley and I are doing this commercial’ and she was like, ‘Wait, Presley and you? What about me?,'” Crawford shared. “I said, ‘Your time will come, honey, don’t worry.’ I think it would be fun for her to get to really recreate my original spot.”
Working on it with Presley, though, was cool in itself for the model. “To include now my next generation, Presley, just makes it that much more familial feeling.”
Her son agreed and told PEOPLE at the time that he was “really excited" to be in the ad, “especially since her commercial from back in the day is so iconic. I feel like now I get to hop in there with her, which is really cool.”

As for another of her iconic looks that Gerber mentioned she’d be keen to recreate, Crawford opened up about her time at the 1991 Oscars with her then-husband Gere in Apple TV+’s series The Super Models.
"I got invited to go to the Oscars with Richard,” she recalled during a confessional in the series. “I’m like, 'Well, what do models do well? We wear clothes well. I mean, I better look good.’”
“That was kind of what my thinking was, like, 'I’m gonna go to the Oscars, I better be a freakin’ supermodel.’”

At the time, she and Gere had just gotten married and she was only 25. They split four years later in 1995, and Crawford went on to marry Rande Gerber in 1998. She and Rande welcomed Presley in 1999 and Kaia in 2001.
