Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year - but, for those hosting the big day, it can be a very expensive time of year, too.

This year, families are going to feel the pinch of Christmas dinner even more as the cost of an average festive dinner for four people has risen to £32.57 compared to last year.

According to analysts Kantar, the cost has gone up 6.5% compared to last year due to price hikes on turkey and vegetables. This is significantly higher than overall grocery inflation of 2.6%.

To try and manage spending during Christmas better, some people may opt to get family members and guests to share the cost. However, this can be a divisive ask - one mum-of-four stirred controversy after she revealed she will be charging her own family for their Christmas day roast.

Carla Bellucci made headlines after she said she plans to charge her family £200 per head for Christmas dinner. The former model, 42, said this would cover a three-course meal and a glass of champagne, adding: "As we are in a cost-of-living crisis and everything has gone up, I need to cover the costs somehow."
