CHRISTINE LAMPARD: I nearly drowned when I was about seven or eight. I remember dad literally pulling me out of the swimming pool, and I remember that feeling. So I was never a fan of it. And then I randomly agreed to get involved with a big Sport Relief task. That's quite a few years ago now. And I water skied the Channel from-- there I was. 22 miles across the English Channel. And--

- Wow.

CHRISTINE LAMPARD: I-- I-- I almost-- I talk about it now as if-- that didn't really happen. Did it? But it did.

DENISE WELCH: Did you keep doing a bit and falling in, or did you do quite long stints?

CHRISTINE LAMPARD: They told me if I fell more than about three or four times, I'd be physically exhausted, that I wouldn't have the energy to continue. And I fell it must have been maybe seven or eight times. At one point, they thought I'd broken my back. It was so-- it was so intense. And the English Channel-- we had to stop for big tankers sailing past us.

GLORIA HUNNIFORD: But you raised 2 million quid.

CHRISTINE LAMPARD: We raised a-- we raised a lot of money--

[APPLAUSE]

But, um, I have to say, uh, I did have a life jacket on. Let's just say.
