Christina Ricci reveals how motherhood healed her 'pain' from fame at young age
Christina Ricci has revealed how becoming a mother healed the "upset" and "pain" she had felt after being thrust into fame as a child.
The actress, 42, explained that the scrutiny that came with being a Hollywood star caused her to party in a "feral and wild" way.
She told The Sunday Times' Style magazine: "I just felt no passion, no care.
"I made a lot of important decisions completely dispassionately, which ended up being a problem later – so, note to anyone, don't make important life decisions when you are going through periods of nihilism.
"But really it was a reaction. It was exhausting to be so upset and in pain all the time."
However, Ricci said that meeting her now-ex-husband James Heerdegen in 2011 and having a son Freddie in 2014 stopped the cycle.

She said: "My son's birth really broke my nihilism and it was a pretty surprising change.
"I thought I would really love him and feel a lot of emotions towards him. I didn't realise that it is all or nothing."
Ricci and Heerdegen split in 2020 and the following year she wed her second husband, Welsh hairdresser Mark Hampton, who she met on a film shoot.
Last December, the star – who is set to appear in Netflix's upcoming Wednesday – gave birth to their daughter Cleopatra at the age of 41.

Ricci rose to fame herself as a child, being catapulted to stardom playing Wednesday Addams in the 1992 film The Addams Family.
Since then, she has starred in the likes of Caspar, Now and Then, Sleepy Hollow and Monster.
