Last night’s American Music Awards coincided with the 25th anniversary of Whitney Houston’s 1992 film, ‘The Bodyguard’.

And to honour the late singer, Christina Aguilera took to the stage to perform Houston’s greatest hits.

Yet it wasn’t merely her moving rendition which captured the audience’s attention but the singer’s new aesthetic.

Back in the noughties, Aguilera was famed for her ’90s braids, nose piercing and barely-there outfits.

While in recent years, the singer has developed a signature look of staple red lipstick coupled with peroxide locks.

But last night, she surprised the audience with a brave fresh-faced look.

The 36-year-old sported minimal make-up with wet-look hair on stage. And the singer teamed the look with a black thigh-split dress and a pair of statement earrings.

And her newfound aesthetic proved a hit with her fans on social media:

Following the moving performance, Aguilera credited the late singer for influencing her own musical career: “Thank you, Whitney Houston, for being the best inspiration ever!”
