Two children suffered serious injuries after a car mounted the pavement and ploughed into parents and pupils outside a south London primary school.

Panicked teachers and other parents rushed to help those injured in the crash outside Beatrix Potter Primary School in Openview, Wandsworth, at about 3.10pm on Tuesday.

One of the children suffered a serious head injury, with another sustaining a suspected fractured leg, the Metropolitan Police said.

All of those injured were taken to hospital. The driver of the car stopped at the scene, and neither they nor the two children also in the car were injured.

A tree and roadside furniture were also struck in the crash.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

The investigation is being led by detectives from the Met’s Serious Collison Investigation Unit.
