Cheapest supermarket for October 2024 named as budget store achieves milestone
With the Christmas prep underway, many UK shoppers will be looking to save some extra pennies when they purchase their groceries.
Luckily, Which? has revealed the latest results in its monthly supermarket price comparison, with the cheapest saving shoppers over £30. The consumer champion has been comparing the average cost of groceries to help shoppers get the best value for money.
Taking the crown for October once again was Aldi, with an average basket of 62 items costing £11.66. It marks the 12th month in a row the budget store has been awarded the coveted title, making it the only supermarket to achieve this milestone for a second time.

On the opposite end of the scale, Waitrose was once again found to be the most expensive option with a basket total of £142.39. With that in mind, Aldi shoppers could find themselves saving an impressive £30.71 when compared to the premium grocer.
The Which? results do compare the cost of both branded and own-branded staples. It also takes into account loyalty schemes such as Clubcard and Nectar prices, with Aldi still reigning supreme in terms of affordability.
Major rival Lidl was close behind, with the same basket of items coming to £112.07 and £112.33 for Plus members and non-members respectively. Meanwhile, Tesco Clubcard prices came to a total of £122.26, making it over £10 more expensive than Aldi.
Asda managed to be cheaper than both Sainsburys and Morrisons loyalty schemes, with a total price of £125.26. By comparison, Sainsbury's Nectar prices came to a total of £125.93, while Morrisons More members would be charged £128.96.
Which? also compares the cost of a larger trolley of 164 popular items, with Aldi and Lidl excluded from due to the amount of stock not included to be fair. Once again, Asda took the title with a total of £418.71, also beating major loyalty prices from other stores.
