ITV viewers were left fuming after The Chase was abruptly taken off the schedule to make room for a breaking news special.

Viewers who tuned in for their daily quiz fix were left disappointed on Wednesday (May 22) when ITV News took over the broadcast. This was due to PM Rishi Sunak announcing a general election to be held on Thursday July 4.

The news special, hosted by journalist Tom Bradby outside 10 Downing Street, focused on the Prime Minister's announcement. However, fans of The Chase were not pleased with the sudden change in programming and took to social media to voice their complaints.

One disgruntled viewer tweeted: "@ITV get the chase on nobody' interested in the general election #itv #thechase." Another vented: "Have they interrupted normal TV schedules for this s**t? Where is the chase," reports the Daily Star.

A third viewer fumeded: "Can't believe they've cancelled The Chase for this? Bradley Walsh would NOT mess us around like this." While another echoed: "Right that's it, where's the bloody #thechase ? #GeneralElection Rishi best get this over and done with toute suite. I can't tolerate, Preston and Brady filling for half an hour @ITV. Off to get myself registered to vote. Like now (I'd rather do that)."

During his significant speech, outside 10 Downing Street in London, Rishi was caught in the rain without an umbrella. While announcing the election next month, Rishi criticised Labour and said: "I don't know what they offer - and in truth, I don't think you do either."

He declared on 5 July, the day following the election, that either he or Sir Keir Starmer will take up the mantle of Prime Minister, while casting aspersions on his opponent for being willing to do anything to gain power.

In the coming weeks, Rishi has vowed to battle for every single vote. "I will prove to you a Conservative government led by me will not put our economic stability at risk," he asserted.
