2020 has been a challenging year for the entertainment world with numerous shows and films postponed due to coronavirus. So many, in fact, that the TV and movie outlook for the rest of the year was looking bleak. But in what is perhaps the greatest entertainment news of the year (not to be melodramatic), Channel 4 has just dropped a teaser trailer for this year's Great British Bake Off along with the news that it is coming to screens very soon.
The trailer harks back to the early days of lockdown where nobody could get their hands on any flour (probably because of the relentless banana breads), and shows people scrabbling around on phone calls and in whispered conversations trying to get hold of some.
The teaser ends with a young boy arriving at his grandma's house to give her a very exciting delivery: a bag of flour. The pair then sit down to share some cake and the camera pans to the iconic GBBO cake, inscribed with the message "Bake Off's Back". And, I mean, have you ever felt joy like it?
Channel 4 hasn't yet announced when we can expect this year's GBBO, but we do know that production on the upcoming series wrapped in August, after filming earlier this year was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This is also the first series since presenter Sandi Toksvig announced she was leaving the show back in January. Comedian Matt Lucas will take her place as season 11 co-host alongside Noel Fielding.
A new series of GBBO honestly can't come soon enough.
