The trend for luxury advent calendars has officially peaked. Today, Chanel has revealed its own festive work of art, which launches as part of the house’s year-long celebrations to mark the 100th birthday of its most famous fragrance.

No5 is, in fact, so famous that it can be recognised not just from its heady floral trail, but by the mere outline of its angled bottle. A follow-on from the stampede-inducing Factory 5 collection, which launched earlier this year, the Chanel advent calendar pays homage to that inimitable silhouette.

The cult creation opens to reveal 27 numbered boxes, each one hiding an object dedicated to the world’s most iconic scent, with many crafted exclusively for the calendar.

Of course, the contents here are in a realm of their own, crafted with the true Chanel collector in mind. Make-up remains firmly in the festive realm, with an exclusive Rouge Allure red lipstick to match the Le Vernis nail lacquer, while accessories include a ceramic bracelet, tree ornament, and even some keyboard stickers. Add a money-can’t-buy snowglobe and that cult-status hand cream into the mix, and you’ve got a very special holiday gift indeed.

And of course, there’s one fragrance in particular that steals the show, with limited editions and miniature bottles aplenty.

Staying true to the theme, your calendar experience commences on December 5 (no premature peeking allowed) and runs every day until December 31 – a serendipitous nod to the house's flagship Rue Cambon address.

The Chanel advent calendar will be available on October 15 at Harrods and Chanel.com.
