Love Island has been huge for ITV, becoming a massive summer ratings hit and spawning spin-offs such as the recent Love Island All Stars.

But not many people will remember the original two seasons of the show when it was called Celebrity Love Island.

Celebrity Love Island ran from 2005-6, and the format was fairly similar to the later seasons, except the contestants were well-known noughties personalities.

Filmed in Fiji, the show gave viewers the chance to vote for couples to go into a 'love shack' and spend time together. The main difference between seasons was that viewers had the elimination vote in season one, while in season two, the celebs could vote each other off the island.

The winning couple would leave with £50,000. Season one was presented by Patrick Kielty and Kelly Brook, with Fearne Cotton replacing Kelly in season two.

Despite spawning endless tabloid headlines, and even having a spin-off show in season two called Aftersun, the show was a ratings flop and was axed in 2006. So, what happened to some of the original cast members, and what did they do once they left the island?

Before stepping onto the island, Calum Best was mostly known for being the son of footballer George Best.

Calum ended up appearing in both seasons of the show, winning series two alongside model Bianca Gascoigne, also known for her family's football connections.

Calum has since carved out a career in reality TV. In 2008 he had his own short-lived MTV series, Totally Calum Best, which showed his attempts to stay celibate for 50 days, despite the womanising reputation he built up at the time.

He's also been in a celebrity edition of Come Dine with Me, Celebs Go Dating, Ex on the Beach, and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Calum is also chairman of Dorking Wanderers Women's Football Club.

Sadly, Paul Danan died this week (January 15) at the age of 46.

Before appearing on Celebrity Love Island, Paul played troubled Sol Patrick on Hollyoaks between 1997 and 2001. The character had a range of gritty storyline, from homelessness to a stint in jail.

Paul was in both seasons of Celebrity Love Island, as producers brought him back for the second series due to his popularity with the public.

During his stint on the show he was nicknamed 'Dangerous Danan' and his antics included getting intimate with model Nikki Ziering.

After Celebrity Love Island, Paul struggled to get back into acting, telling listeners of the Dozen podcast: "It didn't help with my acting career because suddenly people were like 'Oh, we don't want to hire a reality star!' Casting directors were a bit snobby like that, they don't people want to see me on a TV show thinking 'Isn't that the guy from Love Island?'

"It wasn't good for my acting career and it took a long time to get that back. I don't know if it's even fully redeemed even all these years later."

However, he did have many TV appearances such as a short-lived reality show called Calum, Fran and Dangerous Danan with fellow islanders Calum Best and Fran Cosgrove, and was on the twentieth series of Celebrity Big Brother.
