Jenna Ortega follows Margot Robbie's lead in fashion's unexpected hooded dress trend
Despite quite a fulfilled career as a child actor, Jenna Ortega’s latest role as the melancholic Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series has shot her to household fame.
Her new It-girl reign continued as she attended a fashion show wearing the latest fashion trend to take over celebrity style: the hooded dress.
The 20-year-old star attended the Saint Laurent autumn/winter 2023 menswear show with her fellow Wednesday stars William Franklin Miller and Percy Hynes White in Paris on Tuesday wearing a long black hooded gown that would make her on-scream mama Morticia proud.
Ortega and her stylist Enrique Melendez paired the slinky floor-length backless gown with thick gold bangles to keep the look from falling into gothic territory (not that the Wednesday star has ever veered away from emo-chic)
The new take on the ‘naked dress’ – with its deep skin-bearing back – showed off Ortega's honed figure, but it was the addition of a hooded section, placed over the actor's blonde hair which screamed fashion forward.

The hooded dress on the red carpet gradually gained momentum throughout 2022, since Rihanna defied all expectations of a cocooned maternity wardrobe when she stepped out in an Alaïa red wrap coat, complete with structured hood in February.

Elsewhere, models Amber Valletta and Kate Moss wore similarly draped goddess gowns by Saint Laurent at the WSJ Innovator awards in November 2022, which both featured a hooded element.
Since, the likes of Katie Holmes, Michaela Coel and Olivia Wilde have all adopted the trend on the red carpet. And, who could forget Janelle Monáe’s glittering hooded Met Gala looks in both 2020 and 2022.
It doesn't stop there.
Margot Robbie stepped out for the Babylon premiere in December in a hooded dress by Alaïa - one of the first designer's famous for adopting the silhouette in the late Eighties and early Nineties.
The designer and his muse, Grace Jones, pioneered the trend in the late-Eighties, with Jones donning several other designs by the late Azzedine Alaïa which featured hoods or hooded elements.
Ortega is fashion's new darling, with her cut-out Golden Globes gown making her one of the award ceremony's best dressed. Now the actor has sported the haute hood micro trend, who knows how far fashion will take her?
