Cate Blanchett’s embellished Christian Dior frock: Rate it or hate it?

Blue Jasmine actress wore billowing black gown at the Deauville Film Festival, but do you love her look?

She’s not afraid to push the fashion boundaries – and she certainly raised some eyebrows with her sartorial choices this weekend.

Aussie actress Cate Blanchett walked the red carpet wearing a billowing Christian Dior frock that frankly we’re not sure about.

The mum-of-three was attending the Deauville American Film Festival premiere of her latest film, Blue Jasmine.

Cate, 44, stepped out wearing a gown from Christian Dior’s AW13 Couture line that we’ve not seen since it was showcased on the Paris runway earlier this year.

It’s not the most photogenic dress from the French fashion house as it looks slightly too long for the star and swamps her athletic frame.

The frock itself features a traditional roundneck shape – but it’s covered in circular embellishments that look more akin to a Christmas lolly than a red carpet.

Despite Cate’s fashion faux pas, she continued to look elegant in France as she posed for photographers.

The Hobbit actress showcased her flawless, porcelain complexion with just a touch of creamy blush, glossy pink lips and metallic eyeshadow.

Earlier in the day, the stunning star looked angelic in an Armani Prive AW13 Couture frock.

The lacy skater dress hugged her every curve and fell elegantly just below the knees to reveal her gold ankle strap sandals.

It’s not the first time we’ve been on the fence about Cate’s red carpet style.

Last month, she divided critics in a puffball Balenciaga frock – and worked cobweb chic in a mesh Christopher Kane frock.

As much as we love the fact she’s not afraid to take a fashion risk, we wish she’d steer clear of the billowing frocks and opt for the daintier, figure-hugging frocks that not only suit her body shape but her fair complexion as well.
