Knives Out was a huge hit when it was released back in 2019. From the luxe cinematography to the amazing ensemble cast, the film was critically acclaimed and loved by viewers as soon as it landed.

So, we were all pretty overjoyed when the news broke back in March 2021 that director Rhian Johnson had signed a massive Netflix deal to write and direct two sequels. Now, we're starting to get a much clearer picture of the second instalment in the trilogy, including details of another unreal ensemble cast, and when you can expect the film to be released. Here's everything we know about Knives Out 2, otherwise known as Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

When is Knives Out 2 being released?

Good news! Knives Out 2 has an official release date, and is coming to Netflix on the 23rd December. Before then, it will premiere at the London Film Festival

Filming for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery started in mid-June 2021, when director Rhian Johnson wrote on Twitter: "Aaaaaaaand WE'RE OFF! Day one of filming on the next Benoit Blanc mystery. Thanks to all the lovely patient people here in Greece for letting us do all this murdering on their peaceful shores."

Daniel Craig later teased the release date in late 2021, telling Variety, "We did the second one this summer, in Greece. And then we filmed studio work in Serbia. It's in the can. Rian [Johnson] is editing now, and it'll be out, I think, in the fall of this year."

Do we have a trailer for Knives Out 2 yet?

Certainly do! The first look trailer dropped in mid-August 2022, about six months before the film lands on streaming services. Take a look here:

What is Knives Out 2 going to be about?

The original film follows Detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) as he investigates the death of renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), the patriarch of an eccentric, dysfunctional family.

Knives Out 2 sees Detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) investigates another big crime - this time in Greece instead of New England - unearthing the deepest darkest secrets of another group of characters, with the official synopsis explaining:

"When tech billionaire Miles Bron invites some of his nearest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island, it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise. And when someone turns up dead, well, who better than Blanc to peel back the layers of intrigue?"

Who has been cast in Knives Out 2?

The first film featured one of the best ensemble casts going, including Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, LaKeith Stanfield and Toni Colette. So it's no surprise that the cast for the sequel is shaping up to be just as great.

Daniel Craig will be returning to his role as Benoit Blanc but this time joined by an entirely new cast of potential murderers. Joining Craig is Fight Club's Edward Norton, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista and Antebellum's star Janelle Monàe.

Also joining the cast is Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr., Wandavision star (and comedy legend) Kathryn Hahn, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days star Kate Hudson, Outer Banks actor Madelyn Cline and Game of Thrones' Jessica Henwick, who played one of the three Sand Snakes, Nymeria Sand. This is shaping up to be the best cast list since... well, Knives Out.
