Following the death of Friends star Matthew Perry on October 28, his cast-mates from the long-running sitcom have broken their silence on social media and started to share some of their fondest memories from their friendship and time working together.

Courteney Cox was one of Perry's frequent scene partners on the series, thanks to an unexpected storyline in which Chandler and her character Monica had a one night stand that turned into a fully fledged relationship, culminating in them being married with children by the end of the show's run.

Cox shared a clip from one of her favorite moments working with Perry – the first episode where Chandler and Monica got together – and credited him with her joke in that moment: "In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say," she explained. "He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind." She also wrote that she is "so grateful" for the time she got to spend with him.

Jennifer Aniston poignantly shared a photo taken of her and Perry on the set of Friends during its first season, as well as a moving clip of Rachel and Chandler saying goodbye to each other from the series finale 10 years later.

"Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply," she wrote. "He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be. For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh... And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh."

David Schwimmer began his tribute by thanking Perry for "ten incredible years of laughter and creativity," and like Aniston, spoke on how Perry's heart and generosity made it possible to "create a family out of six strangers." He chose to honour his friend and co-star by sharing a photo of Chandler and Ross in one of the show's flashback episodes, with the pair of them in full Eighties, Miami Vice-inspired hair and fashion.

"This photo is from one of my favorite moments with you. Now it makes me smile and grieve at the same time," he wrote. "I imagine you up there, somewhere, in the same white suit, hands in your pockets, looking around – 'Could there BE any more clouds?'"

Matt LeBlanc, who played Chandler's roommate Joey Tribbiani for the show's early seasons and was often paired with him in a kind of double act within the ensemble cast, posted a carousel of some of his most famous scenes and storylines with Perry, saying that it was an "honour" to share the screen with him. "The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life," he wrote. " I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never."

He ended on a joke, which would probably be just how Perry would want it, quipping: "And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me."
