Carrie Underwood Honors Toby Keith With Incredibly Powerful Instagram Tribute
Carrie Underwood honored Toby Keith's memory with an inspiring message on social media.
The legendary country singer died peacefully at home at the age of 62 on Monday, February 5 after a long battle with stomach cancer. His family broke the news Tuesday morning on Instagram, and fans, colleagues and friends alike are devastated. The country music icon has been an inspiration to many aspiring artist and country music stars, including Jason Aldean, Zach Bryan and, of course, Carrie.
Following the news of his death, Carrie took the time to write a heartfelt tribute for her fellow Oklahoma native, and we couldn't have said it better. "Saddle up the horses, Jesus, 'cause a true blue COWBOY just made his ride up to heaven!!! Introduce him to all the Okies and sign that boy up for the choir!" she wrote as she shared some photos of the two together.
The first two pictures show Carrie and Keith together at the BMI Country Awards in 2022 where Toby Keith accepted the BMI Icon Award and Carrie performed in his honor. The third photo is a throwback picture from at least a decade ago.
After fans saw her tribute, they jumped in the comments to express their sadness for Keith's passing, as well as applaud Carrie's tribute. "Love this tribute, Carrie! Rest in Paradise Toby one of the greatest country artists of our time," "No truer words have been spoken. This is a heartbreaking day for the country music community. He was a national treasure" and "This caption couldn't be more appropriate! ❤️," fans wrote.
"Beautiful words @carrieunderwood. Earth was blessed to have @tobykeith, now heaven. He will be missed but his music lives on" and "Beautiful tribute Carrie. He will be missed! ❤️🙏🏻😔," others chimed in.
It's clear that Toby Keith will be missed by many, but thankfully Carrie is here to remind us that Toby is in a better place now.
