Carrie Underwood 'honored' to perform at special fundraiser following Nashville school shooting
Carrie Underwood has revealed how "honored" she was to perform for a special fundraiser after the heartbreaking school shooting on March 27 2023 at The Covenant School in Nashville; six people died including three young children.
Carrie was joined by the likes of Lady A, The War And Treaty and Thomas Rhett on Wednesday April 12, and all proceeds for the event went to The Covenant School, which educates students from pre-kindergarten to the sixth grade.
"It was such an honor to perform during A Night of Joy celebrating @covenantknights last week. What an incredible and inspiring community – they have been heavy on my heart these past few weeks," Carrie wrote alongside a picture taken of her on stage.
The shooting in Nashville was the 139th in the less than 100 days of 2023, and it claimed the lives of three nine-year-olds as well as of three adults in their 60s. It was also the 19th school shooting this year. In the wake of the devastation, parents, gun control advocates, and beyond have spoken out with their concerns, urging politicians to better ensure their childrens' safety.
Today's Jenna Bush Hager was close to tears on her show on March 28, as she shared that when her husband Henry came home from work, she said to him: "'Did you see this?' and I had to whisper, because I have a nine-year-old upstairs, who was doing her homework. "
"And the thought that any of us could send our children on the buses, or walking, or drop them off at carpool, and not get to hug them again, is just beyond.," she concluded.

On March 27, a mass shooting occurred in the Green Hills neighborhood private school at the hands of former student Aiden Hale, 28, who killed three nine-year-old third graders and three adults in their 60s who were employees of the school.
Their names were Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, William Kinney, Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.
As of April 19, The Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research group that tracks gun violence using police reports, news coverage and other sources, has confirmed 165 mass shootings in the US in 2023. April 19 is the 109th day in 2023. The group defines a mass shooting as one in which at least four people were killed or injured.
