Almost a week ago, Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Wilfred.
Now, the prime minister’s fiancée has thanked the NHS midwives who helped deliver her newborn son at 9am on Wednesday, April 29th.
Posting on Twitter, she praised the “incredible” team at University College Hospital, in London, writing: “A big thank you from me.”
They replied: “Thank you Carrie. Hope you and your son are doing well.”
The new mum had shared one of the hospital’s posts to mark today’s ‘International Day of the Midwife’.
They wrote: “This International Day of the Midwife, we want to say a huge thank you to our wonderful midwives for the contribution they make to the care of mothers and babies.”
On Saturday, Carrie, 32, and partner Boris, 55, revealed they had named their little boy Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson.
In a post on Instagram, the former Conservative Party head of communications revealed its multiple meanings.
The child was named after her partner’s grandfather, Wilfred, and her grandfather, Lawrie.
Nicholas was selected in honour of two doctors, Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart, who saved the prime minister’s life when he was battling the coronavirus in hospital last month.
Carrie added: “Thank you so, so much to the incredible NHS maternity team at UCLH that looked after us so well.
“I couldn't be happier. My heart is full.”
A flurry of bets placed Wilfred as the frontrunner just hours within hours of the little boy’s arrival.
Following the birth, a spokeswoman for the prime minister and his partner said both mother and baby were “doing very well”.
“The prime minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well,” the spokeswoman said at the time.
“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
It is understood the prime minister was present throughout the birth.

While there has been no confirmation the couple’s child arrived ahead of his due date, the pair announced in March that Carrie was due in “early summer”, a season that begins on 20 June in the UK.
No other birth details, including the baby’s weight, have been shared.
The couple’s son is the prime minister’s sixth child. He has four children with his second wife, lawyer Marina Wheeler – Theodore, Cassia, Milo and Lara. The couple’s marriage ended in September 2018 after 25 years together.
In 2013, the Appeal Court ruled that the public had a right to know that he had fathered a daughter during an adulterous liaison while mayor of London in 2009.
