Carnival Cruise Line raises Wi-Fi, drink package prices

Carnival Cruise Line passengers may pay more the next time they sail.

The line raised prices for its Wi-Fi and, in some cases, drink packages. The entry-level Social Wi-Fi Plan now costs $18.70 per day when purchased before a cruise and $22 if guests buy it onboard, according to Carnival’s website, up from $15.30 and $18, respectively.

The Value Wi-Fi Plan runs $22.10 per day pre-cruise and $26 onboard – previously $19.55 and $23 – while the Premium Wi-Fi Plan costs $23.80 per day when purchased in advance and $28 on the ship. The latter’s pre-cruise price was previously $21.25 per day, and ran $25 for those buying after embarkation.

On the beverage front, guests may find the Cheers! drink package – which includes wines, spirits and more – looks steeper, too.

For cruises six days or longer, prices for the package were previously listed as $70.74 per person, per day when purchased before a cruise and $76.64 for those buying onboard – including service charges. The prices for shorter sailings were higher.

Are cruises all-inclusive?: Here's what to know before sailing.

The line is no longer offering varied rates based on sailing length, and the higher rates – $82.54 pre-cruise and $88.44 onboard – now apply for all cruises.

“We’re proud of the quality and value a Carnival cruise vacation provides our guests,” Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. “Recent nominal price adjustments to help cover higher costs and our investments in onboard offerings allow us to continue providing the high-quality experiences our guests know and love.”

Lupoli did not specify when the changes took effect.

Carnival isn’t the only cruise line to hike prices recently. Royal Caribbean International raised its gratuity rates last month.
