Heinz cream of tomato soup has been a staple in UK households since it was introduced over 100 years ago.

The iconic dish has been described as a 'hug in a bowl', so it's no wonder people have been striving for years to create their own versions of the nations favourite soup.

TikTok user Slimwithtom shared a recipe for the classic on his social media pages and it was a huge hit with fans.

Branding it as a 'carbon copy replica', Tom said the Slimming World version, nicknamed can, can soup, can be blitzed up in just 'a few seconds'.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans chopped tomatoes

  • 1 can baked beans

  • 1 can carrots in water (or 2 fresh carrots)

  • 1 stock cube

  • 5-6 mini pickled onions

  • Add a splash of water if it needs it!

Speaking about the soup after he made it, Tom said it didn't actually smell like Heinz but he was pleasantly surprised when he tasted it, saying: "Oh it tastes quite like it actually. I'm not sure I would be able to tell the difference."

Heinz's version of cream of tomato soup is 102 calories per serving, however Tom's only contains 59 calories. Heinz also contains 9.7g of sugar, where as tom's only contains 6.3g.

UK households were recently encouraged to stock up Heinz soup due to its unexpected benefits. New research showed that 48 per cent of people crave comfort more than they used to, and 65 per cent of Brits consider food a significant source of comfort.

Remarkably, a recent study has placed Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup at the heart of comfort, sparking brain responses akin to receiving a hug, eclipsing other traditional comforts like a relaxing bath, binge-watching favourite TV programmes, or sipping on a warm brew.
