A company's selling used tissues for £62 each

A Danish company based in the US is selling a used tissue product costing $79.99 (£62), which promises to contain a ‘human sneeze’ as its selling point.

While many will question why anyone would want to purchase someone else’s used tissue at all, let alone fork out £62 for it, it is apparently all in the name of avoiding winter lurgy.

Los Angeles based company Vaeve Tissue, who sell the unusual product, claim using this old tissue will protect you against colds and flu.

“‘The product is a generic tissue that you might find at a store. The tissue is then treated with our hydrolayer, which is a human sneeze,’ company founder Oliver Neissen told The Sun.

“This sneeze is from a person who is sick and comes to our lab to sneeze on a batch of tissues which are then packaged and sold.

“We have a rotation of people who get sick for the production of this product. The rotation guarantees that we always have at least one person sick/available to help make more. That is how the process works.”

No word on how you get on this rotation – or indeed how much commission employees get per sneeze.

If you’re thinking no one would drop £62 on this product, it seems you are mistaken. The product is said to have been sold out for weeks on the Vaev Tissue website, despite the lack of any lab-based trials to prove their efficacy.

For those looking for a somewhat more conventional approach to curing a cold, doctor Claire Morrison, GP at online doctor and pharmacy Med Express, advises remedies such as following a healthy diet and taking zinc and vitamin C.

She also recommends bone broth, taking a steamy shower and good old-fashioned bed rest.

This isn’t the first example this week of non-medical-professionals taking health into their own hands.

Earlier this week, it was revealed a man injected himself with his own semen in an attempt to cure his back pain.
