Camille Razat reveals the product she uses after losing 'so much hair' filming Emily In Paris

A character arc that develops into villain territory narrowed by pure jealousy, or a doting fiancé betrayed and blindsided, having acted on nothing but her justified feelings? This is the debate I'm sure everyone is struggling to conclude – and by everyone, I mean me because ever since watching the season 3 finale of Emily In Paris, I have done nothing but dwell over the dramatiqué climax à la Camille… oh la la.

So, while toying with the possibilities of what's to come (T-Minus a month...ish, people!), I jumped at the opportunity to sit down with – albeit over Zoom – the actor herself, Camille Razat, to discuss (read: gossip) all things hair and makeup in season 4, the bad habits that we both share and why she doesn’t tend to wear lipstick when in public. Spoiler: The answer is relatable AF.

But first, tackling the rookie error of every WFH call; “Uhh, Camille, I think you’re on mute?” Sorry, girl, wink, nudge.

Hurdle cleared, Camille starts to share the best beauty tips she’s learnt having worked in the industry as not only an actor but a model, too. “It's very simple but I always remove my makeup before going to bed – to let your skin ‘breath’,” says Camille in her trademark French tone. Dressed in a simple short-sleeved tee with hair falling loose and unstyled and not a stitch of make-up on her face, she radiates the unadorned chic look of a Parisian powerhouse.

“It’s the same when I’m not working,” she continues. “I'm working a lot, shooting a lot, so, I try just to leave my skin with nothing on it when I can. I also love using a gua sha; I use it to de-puff my face which is very useful when you have a very early call time.” Lymphatic drainage? Camille is an expert in the subject!

“I also always have my Boiron Homeoplasmine to hand,” Camille adds. “It's a French cream and it relieves irritation so you can use it for multiple things. It’s the best product ever!”

I've never tried the cream, I confess to Camille, to which she strongly advises me to dabble. How could I argue with the natural glow of such a French 'IT' girl? I agree to her recommendation, even if I can't pronounce the product name with her same French flair. It's the effort that counts, right?

With the same love for her trusted Homeoplasmine, Camille gushes over and shares the breadth of her beauty inspo sources when I ask about her 'muses'. As well as her mum, who put her onto most she knows, Camille says: “I love FKA Twigs’ hair and makeup style.”

She continues to wax lyrical about the popstar. “I think she's brilliant, daring and very edgy. I also love Kate Moss because she's timeless,” the 30-year-old says, followed by a surprising admission. “I wouldn’t shave my head like FKA, but if I wasn’t an actor, I would probably get a mullet.” Surprising, much?!

Well, the mullet has undergone a metamorphosis in recent times, so, is it that unexpected? Julia Fox, Miley Cyrus, Winnie Harlow and... Camille Razat?

Keeping with the theme of talented “Bri-ish” (as Camille puts it)-born women, the actor reveals how her EIP co-star, Lily Collins inspires her with an on-set habit – and it's one that we say both of us could benefit from following. “The thing that she's always doing? She's always drinking water or green tea. She's staying hydrated the whole time. She's very professional. And I will say I have to drink more water like her.” Now that, my friends, is beauty inspiration 101. Mullets, water and green tea, need I say more?

When on set but not filming, it’s not just drinking water that the stars do to pass the time. To achieve – as the Hollywoodians would say – ‘movie magic’, Camille, Emily and co regularly undergo a number of dramatic fashion and beauty makeovers.

When discussing all-things hair with me, Camille shares that bleaching hers blonde for EIP “destroyed” its health and that she “lost so much hair” in the months that followed. To combat this going forward, Camille confided in one product and it's one that she now swears by: the Authentic Beauty Concept Glow Serum. “I really noticed a shift, I have so much hair growing again,” Camille says. “It’s so hydrating and protects hair from the heat and UV. It's a multi-tasking product and I make sure to use it before going to glam in the morning.”

As someone who has been trialling said spray herself, I can safely agree with the above statements. Glossy, glass-like lengths? Yes, please.

Now, although the colour may have compromised her hair health during the early process of filming, Camille says that her approach to beauty has developed since. “My character is becoming bolder and edgier because that's who she's becoming in her storyline.

“She's making choices for herself and doesn't care what other people think, so, that goes pretty well with the garments and beauty looks we pick for this season – everything is elevated. It’s closer to what people wear nowadays in Paris.”

Parisian beauty, believe it or not, is not just about the French bob and red lip. The face of beauty, be it in France or the UK, is ever-evolving and to represent that, EIP has seen developments in the look of their characters throughout the show. As the actor mentions, her beauty story continues in the upcoming season with bolder “purple eyeshadow” and finger wave hairstyles.

Having said that, in real life, Camille holds no fear in telling me that her approach to glam is very different and rather, stripped back, if you will. Other than wearing brightly patterned socks (exclusive intel), the new face of Authentic Beauty Concept explains why she doesn’t tend to wear bold lip looks. “Well, you know, I like to eat out at restaurants. This way, I don't have to worry too much about my lipstick. You know what I'm saying?” Yes, Camille, I know exactly what you’re saying: Smudged gloss is no fret for this foodie!

While I heavily relate to food talk, what I aspire to relate to is Camille’s immaculate complexion. Even through the pixelation of my supposed high-definition screen, I can tell that the bare-faced beauty is donning clear skin like no other. Foreseeing that she more than likely has a skincare routine to rival, I admit to having been mesmerised by her skin and in doing so, nervously reveal the one habit a beauty journalist should never reveal… squeezing spots. I know, I know, blasphemy but in an attempt to lure a bad habit out of Camille (if she even has one, I question in doubt), I get candid. And in doing so, I am more than surprised at her response.

Followed by laughter, Camille admits that she is “the same”. The same?! Me and thee Camille Razat?! Humble brag; that's my claim to fame sorted.

“As soon as I see one [a blemish] I'm like, I know I shouldn't do it! I think it's so gross but also so satisfying. You know, to see it pop out. It's horrible but it's a bad habit,” says Camille. And what’s more, is that like me, she admits to watching pimping popping videos online, too! A mutual love for Dr Pimple Popper, who’d have thought it?

Bad habits aside, Camille quickly followed up with the good, sharing with me the treatment that she’s been loving ATM – and it’s one that Jennifer Lopez is a fan of, too. The Hydrafacial, according to Camille, is the “best treatment” and works by removing impurities from pores with gentle suction. At the same time, it hydrates and saturates the skin's surface with intense moisture making for results to envy – as her face demonstrates.

Unfortunately, as plugged into beauty culture as she is, there is one treatment that Camille has yet to try. “I would also love to try the PRP, vampire facial,” she passionately adds. The vampire facial is a treatment that was arguably made famous by Kim Kardashian and to put it simply, stimulates collagen production in your skin through a combination of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Gory, yet supposedly rewarding and a journey to say the least, between filming a number of TV shows and films, we're not surprised that Camille hasn't found the time for the treatment.

With an image of vampires in mind and sacred time with Camille ticking by, I shoot my final shot and probe my new-found beauty mogul (and BFF) for details behind her latest work. Per her recent Instagram post, I question: “We’ve seen you hinting at some exciting things on social media lately… pirates and SFX makeup? Can you say anything about this?” In response and to my joy, Camille shares subtle hints. “It's a series. I'm the bad guy in it, which I’m very happy about. It’s French and it’ll be on Netflix. Oh, and lots of SFX makeup. That’s all I can say.”

In other words, it couldn't be further from her current role! Perhaps the finely spun villainry at the end of EIP season 3 helped channel her inner 'bad guy'?

And with that, I let the rumour mill, commence... My DMs are open to theories and speculations alike. Though, whatever it may be, we're sure Camille will bring world-class, talent and beauty to all her work going forward. (Even if covered in prosthetics!)
