Cam Newton's 8 Kids: All About the Former NFL Player’s Sons and Daughters — and Why Fatherhood Surprised Him in the Best Way
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has eight kids: sons Chosen, Camidas, Cashmere, Caesar and Jaden and daughters Sovereign-Dior, Shakira and a baby girl born in 2024
Cam Newton was a football star, but he’s proudest to be called dad by his kids.
The former NFL MVP shares four children with his ex-girlfriend, Kia Proctor — sons Chosen Sebastian, Camidas Swain and Cashmere Saint and daughter Sovereign-Dior Cambella — and helps raise Proctor’s older daughter, Shakira. Newton also shares two children with photographer LaReina Shaw — their son, Caesar and Shaw's older son, Jaden, from a previous relationship.
Newton and his girlfriend Jasmin Brown, who have been dating since 2022, welcomed their first child together, a girl, in March 2024. They have not yet revealed her name.
In honor of Father's Day 2020, Newton — who had seven kids at the time — shared a series of photos of his family on Instagram, alongside a caption about his love of fatherhood.
“A daddy isn’t defined as the man who makes the child (not in all instances), but rather a man who extends his hands and time to help with the child’s raising and his heart to love the child through anything!!” he wrote in part. "Blood doesn’t always make you Daddy. Being a dad comes from the heart.”

Newton has also said that he hopes to have more children.
"People saying, 'You having all these kids.' I take care of all my kids,” Newton said on the Club Shay Shay podcast in April 2024. “See, that's the thing. I always wanted a big family. I come from that so I want that.”
Here's everything to know about Cam Newton’s eight kids: sons Chosen, Camidas, Cashmere, Caesar and Kaden, daughters Sovereign-Dior and Shakira and his youngest baby girl.
Newton shares four children with his ex-girlfriend Proctor
Newton welcomed four children with his then-girlfriend, Kia Proctor.
The former Carolina Panthers quarterback and Proctor welcomed their first child, son Chosen Sebastian, on Dec. 24, 2015.
“My longtime girlfriend and I were extremely blessed to have a son last week,” Newton wrote on X. “Our family is excited, and thank you all for the well wishes!”
Newton picked the name Chosen because he "wanted something that would be masculine, but yet unique," per The Charlotte Observer. The former footballer added that he was “not a big fan of juniors" due to the "pressure" that brings.
Newton and Proctor’s daughter, Sovereign-Dior Cambella, was born on Feb. 3, 2017. “How did I get so lucky?” Newton captioned an Instagram photo of himself and Sovereign in 2019.
Their third child, son Camidas Swain, joined the family on July 6, 2018, followed by son Cashmere Saint on Sept. 30, 2019.
Newton and Proctor separated in 2020 after she learned that he had fathered a child with photographer LaReina Shaw. In a September 2024 Q&A video on her YouTube channel, Proctor admitted that she thought the relationship “was going toward marriage” until Newton’s infidelity.
Newton has a son with Shaw
Newton and Shaw's son Caesar Lorenzo, was born on July 4, 2019, and he and Shaw went public for the first time on her Instagram Stories two years later.
“I have grown so much with you being here on this earth and I am constantly reminded by what my purpose, discipline, & drive is; Thank you son,” Newton captioned a black-and-white Instagram photo of himself and Caesar on his son’s first birthday in 2020.
During a 2022 appearance on The Pivot podcast, Newton discussed how he had changed since his early years in the NFL, saying that a “personal situation” was behind it.
“My longtime girlfriend at the time [Proctor], we had a family. And I made a mistake, I hurt her, and I jeopardized our family at that time, and I had a child outside of our relationship,” he said.
“I can honestly say I made a humanistic mistake,” Newton added. “And when Caesar Lorenzo Newton was born, I then stopped caring [what other people thought], because I could only be the best person that I could be.”
Newton's youngest child was born in 2024
Newton’s oldest and youngest kids are just over a decade apart.
The Georgia-born athlete's girlfriend, comedian Jasmin “Watch Jazzy” Brown, announced her pregnancy on Oct. 27, 2023, alongside a photo of her baby bump and upcoming tour dates.
“Third times (sic) a charm tour 😉 coming to a comedy stage near you,” Brown captioned the Instagram post. The poster also had a graphic reading “Baby Momma 3," referencing that she would be the third woman Newton was having a child with.
Their baby girl was born in March 2024. The couple, who have been together since 2022, have not revealed their daughter’s name.
Brown has, however, shared some insight on Instagram into her journey as a mom. She revealed that she learned she was pregnant on June 26, 2023, and has posted photos and videos of her daughter, always keeping the infant’s face hidden.
Two of Newton's children are from his ex-girlfriends' previous relationships
Newton also helps to raise two of his ex’s children from previous relationships. Proctor's older daughter, Shakira, was born in February 2007.
In 2017, Newton paid tribute to Shakira in a since-deleted Instagram post in honor of her birthday, according to ESPN, writing, “in retrospect you were my first child.”
"I remember the first day you called me daddy and I was scared as hell,” Newton wrote. “But when I thought about it, I was honored for you to think of me as not only a male figure in your life but also as a father figure you could learn from as well. Your mom and I are not married, but no one can tell you that I'm not your father and they damn sure can't tell me that you're not my daughter."
In February 2022, for Shakira's birthday, Newton wrote on Instagram, “I credit you for keeping me accountable and making me alter my thinking and beliefs.” Two months later, in April, he interviewed Shakira for an episode of his series, Funky Friday.
Shaw also has an older child, son Jaden, born in February 2006.
During an April 2024 interview on Club Shay Shay, Newton shared that he “wanted to be married with a house and a picket fence,” but that “wasn’t what my life panned out to be."
"I proudly say I have 8 children. Six biologically through me. And I don’t believe in stepchildren," he explained. “What my biological kids get, everybody gets. I don’t have no favorites. I’m raising kings and queens.”
They've followed in his athletic footsteps
Football is in the Newton blood.
On her YouTube channel, Proctor shared that Chosen and Camidas are on football, basketball and track teams and said “there are no off days, off times, of any sports.”
Sovereign, who also goes by the nickname Sovi, played basketball for the first time during the 2022-2023 season before trying her hand at tennis. Proctor said Sovereign “loved” and “did a lot better with tennis” and wants to try cheerleading next.
Proctor has also shared clips of her boys’ games, including showing Newton on the football sidelines, as well as Instagram photos of her and Newton’s kids swimming and tumbling.
For Halloween 2024, Sovereign dressed up as a cheerleader while Proctor donned a sparkly football uniform. She also posted an Instagram video of the boys in their football uniforms, with Sovereign cheering and Proctor wearing both her football costume and a referee uniform.
In addition, Shaw has uploaded sporty photos of her son Caesar, including two of him playing tennis in honor of his 5th birthday in July 2024.
Newton has said fatherhood is his biggest priority
As important as football was to Newton, he has repeatedly spoken about how fatherhood is the role he has most embraced.
In 2017, he penned a poem for his son called "Dear Chosen," published in The Players’ Tribune. In the piece, Newton told Chosen to “be better than me” and that “you don’t have to be an athlete to be accepted by me. You can be whatever you want to be.”
That same year, Newton told Yahoo! Sports that fatherhood was "great,” joking, “I’m not as bad as I thought I was!”
“It’s something that a person can never really prep for, but for me I just want to be available, and it’s helped me be a better man,” he added.
Newton also pays tribute to each of his kids on social media, regularly sharing happy birthday messages on Instagram.
Newton and Proctor have a “week on, week off” co-parenting schedule
Despite reportedly contentious custody hearings in the past, as of 2024, Newton and Proctor seem to be on better co-parenting footing. Proctor shared on her YouTube channel that she and Newton have a “week on, week off” co-parenting schedule, switching every Sunday.
“I think the kids are great. They’re in a great space. I try to make sure that they don’t go without and that they're good mentally. And we have a great co-parenting schedule,” she said. “I feel like we do the best we can and we make it work ... for the kids. It has definitely been a work in progress, and I feel like it should get better with time.”
Proctor said that after they first separated, she and Newton would celebrate their children’s birthdays together, going to places like SeaWorld and iFly. They later began to do birthday celebrations separately, but she hopes that in the future they’ll combine them again.
In 2021, Newton publicly wished a happy Mother’s Day to both Proctor and Shaw on Instagram.
