Call the Midwife's Jenny Agutter, who plays the beloved Sister Julienne, has joked about Tom Cruise of creating quite a distraction on set… with a helicopter.

While most of us have to worry about chatty co-workers, noisy pets, or resisting the urge to check our phones for the hundredth time, the main disruption at Longcross Studios in Surrey is an airborne actor.

Agutter has starred as Sister Julienne since the show’s beginning in 2012, and her stomping ground Nonnatus House has had a set at Longcross Studios since the third season (at present, the twelfth is soon to come out and the thirteenth has been commissioned).

However, it seems some light-hearted competition is underway, with Tom Cruise also working at Longcross Studios for the filming of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Parts One and Two.

The actress jokingly spoke about the filming woes during the TV Choice Awards on November 14, saying (via the Mirror): "Tom Cruise keeps on ruining our filming by landing his helicopter right outside where we're shooting."

Agutter was asked whether she had any plans to approach the actor about his poor timing, to which she responded: "In my habit! Imagine. 'Excuse me Tom, but look we're trying to film. I don't know about you, but just get your helicopter out of here quickly!'"

Cruise, who recently secured another box office hit with Top Gun: Maverick, has a pilot's licence in real life, which he seems to be putting to use both in and out of character.

His next film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, is due to arrive in cinemas on July 14 2023.

Meanwhile, Agutter will be back on our screens for the Call the Midwife Christmas special.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One. Mission: Impossible 7 currently has a scheduled release date of July 14, 2023.
