Call the Midwife star’s beloved BBC show to end after 5 seasons

Despite being a hugely popular show with critics and audiences alike, BBC has confirmed the hit comedy series Ghosts will end after five seasons.

The show has now concluded filming for the final series, with the cast moving to focus on new projects. Posting on social media, the Ghosts team wrote: "After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace. We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can't wait to share it with you all later this year.

"We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support. But most of all we’d like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben."

BBC’s director of commentary, Jon Petrie, added: "We are officially in mourning for the end of this BBC Comedy Classic. We can’t thank the Ghosts team enough for five incredible series (not to mention some perfect Christmas Specials) and we can’t wait for BBC viewers to see the final series. We look forward to working with the team on new projects."

The show stars Call the Midwife actress Charlotte Ritchie as Alison who, alongside her husband Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) inherits a haunted house and helps the cheeky group of ghosts with their afterlives.

Fans were understandably devastated by the news, with one tweeting: "We have loved them all, cried when Mary was sucked up and loved every single series episode. Better to go out on a high than milk it dry! Thank you," while another person added: "Well that's my day ruined." A third person wrote: "I am not okay thanks for asking."
