It’s been more than 20 years since Titanic hit cinemas, and like our hearts, this particular debate about the iconic film, has gone on – and on: whether or not Rose (Kate Winslet) could have scooched over to make room for Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) on the door.

For most of us, it is still quite traumatic to watch Jack sink into the deep icy ocean, while Rose floats away on what appears to be a double-sized door.

So, even two decades after the heartbreaking scene, we can’t help but wonder if the star-crossed lovers could have had a very different fate.

Now, Céline Dion has aired her feelings on the matter.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new album Courage, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer said: “First of all, if you look closely [at] the picture, Rose is maybe dead or totally frozen. And she’s not quite all there, okay?”

She continued: “Second of all, he doesn’t need an invitation. Come on, baby! Make himself comfortable. Jump in. You know?” We do.

“Then who did not think about this guy who is in the middle of the frozen ocean and that maybe all his body is so frozen that he didn’t have the strength to jump,” Dion said, before breaking into a rendition of “Jump! (For My Love)”.

Dion is not the first to address the polarising topic. DiCaprio did so – well, kind of – in July, during a MTV interview with his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-stars Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. When he was asked whether Jack could have survived after all, DiCaprio said: “I have no comment.”

According to ET, both Pitt and Robbie jumped in on the debate, with Pitt telling his co-star: “Could you have squeezed there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?” But DiCaprio was not to be swayed from his original answer: “No comment. Like I said, I have no comment.”

Luckily for us, Dion did have something to say, settling the great debate once and for all.
