I tried a $1,795 armchair from Burrow — here's my honest review

Now that I'm in the latter half of my 20s (the extreme latter half, my father likes to remind me), I have entered the phase of one's life where your decade-old IKEA furniture no longer cuts it.

There's nothing wrong with IKEA, of course. But as someone who devotes many of their waking hours perusing the interior design side of Pinterest, a little brand diversity would be appreciated.

On the topic of Pinterest, one furniture brand that keeps finding its way into my feed is Burrow.

Burrow is one of the latest (and buzziest) ready-to-ship furniture brands to hit the Canadian market. The brand offers a selection of indoor and outdoor pieces, its main draw being its line of easy-to-build, modular seating.

Seeing that Burrow has already racked up thousands of five-star reviews and one Yahoo editor's seal of approval, I decided that its Union Armchair would be the perfect grown-up addition to my space. To see what I loved and learned from my Burrow experience, read below.

Delivery & assembly

Right off the bat, I was amazed by how fast Burrow's delivery was — it arrived just a few days after ordering. Seeing that many furniture brands can take weeks, if not months, to ship, it was a happy surprise when my building concierge alerted me to the speedy delivery.

When I went to pick up the armchair, I was taken aback to find several extremely large boxes waiting for me. Word to the wise: Have a loved one on hand for the delivery, or else you may find yourself momentarily frazzled and searching for a trolley.

While bulky, the boxes were surprisingly lightweight, so I could easily carry them into my apartment. Each package is clearly labelled, so you're not left scrambling, looking for a part.

Part of Burrow's claim to fame is its easy, tool-free assembly. When investing in a Burrow piece, you can assemble an entire sectional without any tools. For its part, putting together the armchair may have required me to turn off my background music to pay attention, but once focused, I assembled the chair within 30 minutes. If I had an extra set of hands, the time could be cut in half.

Burrow Union Armchair: Review

It's been a little over a month since I welcomed the Union Armchair into my home, and honestly, I love it.

The chair is big — bigger than I imagined. I live in a tiny space, so its size seemed overwhelming for the first few days. However, six weeks in, it's become one of my most-used pieces of furniture.

The armchair is deep and plush, making it a luxuriously comfortable spot to take a Zoom call or read a book. While my current apartment could best be described as itsy-bitsy, I know I'll have the armchair for years to come in what will (hopefully) be more generously-sized rooms.

Its polyester chenille fabric is touted to be durable, stain-resistant and easy to clean. However, I won't allow anyone to eat or drink on it yet, so the cleaning is still to be determined.

Upon seeing the chair, a good friend described it as the "perfect grown-up chair" — the best compliment for my interior design goals.

What reviewers say

On Burrow, the Union Armchair has racked up dozens of five-star reviews, with users calling the style "plush and comfy."

"It looks great, is comfortable, easy to put together, arrived quickly, and [Burrow has] awesome customer service!" writes one shopper. "[I] love everything about it."

Verdict

At $1,795, Burrow's Union Armchair is a pricey investment. However, if you're willing to pay for quality and style, it will last you for years to come. While some reviewers say the chair is "harder than expected," it's become one of my favourite places to cozy up and chill out. Plus — it's really pretty in person.
