Broccoli Recalled Over Listeria Concerns in 20 States
  • Packaged fresh broccoli is being recalled over listeria concerns.

  • The 12-ounce floret bags were sold at Walmart in 20 states.

  • Affected packages feature a best-by date of December 10, 2024.

Fresh broccoli is being recalled due to listeria concerns, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). One lot of washed and ready-to-eat 12-ounce Braga Fresh Marketside Broccoli Florets was pulled from store shelves due to possible listeria contamination.

The bagged produce’s best-by date has already passed—it expired on December 10, 2024, the FDA pointed out. However, the recall remains to inform people who still have the product or may have frozen it for future use. Potential for contamination was discovered during a random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services, during which one of multiple samples tested positive for listeria. If you believe you have affected product, dispose of it immediately and do not eat it.

Listeria are bacteria that can contaminate food and cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems, per the FDA. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of infection may include flu-like muscle aches and fatigue, fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. In pregnant people, infection may cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The Marketside Broccoli Florets bags affected have a UPC code of 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the package, a Best if Used by Date of December 10, 2024, and a Lot Code of BFFG327A6 on the package front. The recall does not apply to any other Marketside or Braga Fresh produce products.

States impacted by the recall include: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

If you have the affected product at home, the recall advises disposing of it immediately and not consuming it. If you have questions or concerns about the recall, the FDA suggests contacting Braga Fresh foods at 877-456-7445 between Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST or emailing WeCare@bragafresh.com.
