Growing up close to London, I was used to drinking what some might call quite "tappy" tap water, that often left a metallic aftertaste in the mouth. So, I decided to invest in a water filter jug for my home.

Three years on, and I'm recommending everyone invests in a jug of their own. Which brings me onto my latest spot, a cracking deal on one of the best rated water filter jugs on the market: Brita's Aluna Water Filter Jug, complete with a filter cartridge, now just £13.50 down from £25.79 at Amazon. That's almost a 50% saving!

Using a four-step filtration process, it significantly reduces various contaminants, while leaving the essential minerals for delivering better-tasting water.

Say hello to great-tasting, crisp, cold drinking water with the help of this water filter jug from leading brand, BRITA.

Featuring a slimline design that fits perfectly in your fridge door, it's easy on the eye and super simple to use.

The jug itself has a generous 2.4 litre capacity that generates 1.4 litres of filtered water, big enough for regular daily use, and the lid comes with a handy digital indicator that tells you exactly when it's time to swap your existing filter for a fresh one.

It even features a spout cover to protect the filtered water from dust and other impurities in the fridge from worming their way in.

As for the actual filtration process, it's simple. The four-stage process starts with a super-fine mesh that captures coarse particles that often come from old pipework. It then uses natural activated carbon to significantly reduce chlorine, filter substances that affect taste, and remove trace impurities such as certain herbicides, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Then, it uses ion-exchange pearls to soften the water, and get rid of any signs of metal like lead and copper, before finishing with an additional layer of filter mesh.

  • Chlorine

  • Limescale

  • Metals like lead and copper

  • Herbicides, pesticides and pharmaceuticals

Although great at reducing the above contaminants, there are some substances that Brita filters can't filter including: fluoride, nitrates, bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and other waterborne pathogens.

The particular model I have is smaller than this, and hailed a carafe rather than a jug — but it suits all of my needs and is perfect for those with less space in the fridge, or those who live alone or with their partners.

Great for small households, this carafe-style water filter jug uses small disc cartridges to reduce chlorine and other taste impairing substances for great-tasting filtered water.

For me, it's not just good at producing great-tasting, filtered water, but it's also had a huge impact on the actual amount of water I'm actively drinking.

With over 800 five-star reviews on Amazon, it's safe to say shoppers couldn't be more pleased with the impact the jug's had on their quality of tap water.

Numerous happy customers have commented on the difference it's made to the taste of their tap water, claiming it "completely changes" the taste, and is "so much better" than before.

One shopper even came back to repurchase a replacement after owning one for 18 years — if that doesn't tell you how good these water filter jugs are, I don't know what will!
