Bridgerton season 3 to be 'steamiest series yet' after lead stars break furniture filming sex scenes
Bridgerton is set to get back to its raunchy roots for season three, with the new series of the Netflix show billed the steamiest yet.
The period drama became known for its sex scenes when it launched in 2020 featuring the love story between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Rege-Jean Page), but some fans were disappointed by a tamer season two that focussed on Phoebe's brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his love interest Kate (Simon Ashley).
So viewers will be pleased to know that the sex scenes are back and steamier than ever before in the forthcoming season three, where Nicola Coughlan's Penelope Featherington will find love with Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton.
According to The Sun, viewers will be left hot under the collar by moments including a lesbian sex scene, threesomes and oral sex, as well as one male character having an affair with a glamorous older woman - and star Nicola has even admitted to breaking furniture in the enthusiastic love scenes.
Bridgerton fans have been looking forward to seeing Derry Girls star Nicola take centre stage in Penelope's friends-to-lovers storyline after being a supporting character for the previous two seasons and she told Entertainment Weekly that she and co-star Luke had thrown themselves into the action.
She admitted of the sex scenes: "We did break a piece of furniture while doing one scene. It's a little bit like a stunt in which they're like, 'Okay, we're gonna do this, this, and this'.
"But then they gave us freedom and we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do. That makes you feel quite empowered. So we felt super. They were actually really enjoyable. I didn't think they would be. It was fun."
Other season three scenes reportedly include Colin visiting sex workers and having a threesome with two women who later perform a sex show for him, while last year's main star Jonathan is said to have a racy scene with co-star Simone as Anthony puts his head between Kate's legs.
Nicola has spoken before about being uncomfortable with the idea of sex scenes, even saying that she had asked producers for a PG season that she could watch at home with her mum.
She told the Six O'Clock Show: "It's not one to watch with the family. Take of that what you will. It was terrifying. I am an Irish woman, and any Irish woman would feel like they can't do this. And then I went and realised, it's my job so I better. I had a great partner, and it was terrifying, but really liberating. I was exhausted by the end."
Bridgerton season three part one arrives on Netflix on May 16, with part two dropping on June 13.
