A bride-to-be was surprised to find a secret message from her terminally ill mother hidden on the soles of her wedding shoes.

Emma from Leicestershire, who is set to tie the knot in August, got engaged back in 2016 but just one month later, her mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

The bride hoped that her mum would be able to make the big day but she sadly passed away in 2017.

“It’s been so hard planning a wedding without having her with me and I have had lots of tears,” the 38-year-old told the BBC.

But her mother made sure to be a part of the forthcoming nuptials, as she sent Emma a pair of bridal shoes complete with a hidden message.

The touching note read: “Wanted you to have a gift from me on your wedding day. Your wedding shoes are my gift to you. Hope you have a magical day. Lots and lots of love and big hugs, MUM xxxx”

Understandably, Emma was moved by the note as only her fiancé knew about the surprise gift.

“I started to cry… I was just absolutely in bits,” she told the BBC. “I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk.”

Amanda Weise, who runs bespoke shoe company, Lace and Love, was proud to have been involved in the process.

“I did know her mum was ill right from her first email when she told me she wanted to buy them for Emma,” she tells Yahoo UK. “She told me that she had cancer and said she wouldn’t make the wedding. That was so heart wrenching.”

“It was mixed feelings when Emma’s mum contacted me, one of sadness for her and Emma (Emma is a friend although I never met her mum) but also pride that she was trusting designing these shoes and giving this gift to Emma from her.”Emma’s mother paid for the shoes in advance and Weise hopes the bride will take comfort wearing them on her wedding day.READ MORE: You can now hire a bouncy castle for your big day

“I think mums do play such an important part of the wedding but sadly like Emma not everyone has that opportunity to have them there,” she added.

“That’s why I think my memory shoes, with notes or pictures etc are so important, as hopefully that can offer a small amount of comfort on the day and a way to have them included.”
