KATIE WEIR: I'm a bra-fitting expert. And here's my five top tips to finding the perfect fit. First off, we're going to start with the cups of the bra. You always want to ensure that your breast tissue is encapsulated in the cup from the top and the side. We don't want any double boob or quad boob because this means that the cup is too small. When we go to the underwires of the bra, we want to ensure that the center wire is sitting between the bust as flush as we can towards the breast bone.
When we follow the underwire, we want it to reach right around all of the breast tissue. Now, this means going quite far back into the armpit area. A great judge of this is to pop your arm up and to bring your finger around. And if it is in line with the back of your armpit, it's a good indication that the breast is encapsulated in the bra.
When we look at the back band, we want it to sit at a right angle. Your back band shouldn't be riding up. It should be sitting straight and always worn on the loosest hook for a new bra. As your bra ages and you wash and wear, you can tighten up the hook and eyes to continually receive 80% support from your bra cups.
Your straps should always have a two-finger tension. This means that your straps can't be pulled up to your ears or above. This two-finger tension will ensure that your back band is giving you 80% support, taking the weight quite literally off your shoulders. Another top tip is when you're wearing non-padded bras, like I am today, to opt for a side support bra because this brings in all of the breast tissue from the side to the center of your body, giving a lovely streamlined look.
