Boy George is the focus of a forthcoming biopic and he hopes that Sophie Turner will secure the lead role. The film comes amid a spate of musical biopics including Rocketman about Elton John and the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody which tells the life story of Freddie Mercury.

George (full name George Alan O'Dowd) confirmed news that emerged in May which reported that Sacha Gervasi will write and direct a feature film about the famed 80s singer. Gervasi is known for directing biopic My Dinner with Hervé in 1993 and also Hitchcock in 2012, in which Anthony Hopkins played the titular role and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma.

On the subject of who should play him, The Culture Club frontman said there had been "some really interesting suggestions".

"One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner," he told the Australian radio station Nova 689. "[People will say] she can't play you she's a woman, you know. But when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her."

The singer already has a link to Turner, having co-starred with her husband Joe Jonas on The Voice Australia. He says he's not worried about how he's represented in the film.

"In our game, there is always stuff that is written about you that is so ridiculous," he said. "That you say, 'I don't mind it though, it makes me sound more interesting,' George replied. "He sleeps upside down on the roof. He only lives on lentils, that kind of stuff... I think it just makes a great picture."
