This new blow-dry mist will give you the smooth and shiny hair of dreams

I am not the biggest fan of washing – OK, drying – my own hair. Given a free evening and an innovative new product to try, I can knock out a pretty good effort, but since the former are in shorter supply than the latter and I have a remarkably dry and wayward wave that responds far better to the hand of a professional, my overflowing drawer of glossy styling creams, velcro rollers and shine sprays remains untouched while the route to John Frieda, Larry King and Hershesons, where I can receive a beautifully sleek and frizz-resistant blow-dry that lasts for almost a week, is well-trodden.

But if I have to, I can, and when I do, I am thrilled to report that – even putting aside the fact that electrical tools are now mind-bogglingly advanced – home blow-drying has come a long way. Miracle products combine care with heat protection, just about everything repairs broken bonds and brands have worked tirelessly to create finishes that last longer than they used to.

Glaze Mirrorglaze Shine Spray review

My new find does all of the above. Mirrorglaze, from British disruptor colour and care brand Glaze, is called a 4-In-1 Shine Spray because it does exactly that. Mist it section by section into towel-dried hair after washing (you'll know when you've used enough because hair will feel completely wet again, said Jack Luckhurst, the stylist who showed me how to use it) and dry with a good amount of tension (this bit is essential, as the magic doesn't happen without a good 'pull' as you dry). Follow those basic rules and avoid using any other product until hair is completely dry and what you'll get is not just 1) excellent heat protection but 2) internal bond repair, 3) fluid-looking shine and 4) a frizz-blocking finish that lasts for a further two blow-dries. All that and change from £20, which I can't say for many other miracle products that are this good.

Mirrorglaze is my entry point into the world of Glaze, but I'm the late adopter of Red's beauty team, which rates the brand's semi-temporary home hair tints so highly we've listed them in Red's inaugural Tween & Teen Beauty Awards. 'Imagine treatment and colour had a baby, but fun, because who wants to do anything that's not fun', is the way that Glaze MD Said Dabbagh described them to me, agreeing that you might also liken them to tinted moisturiser for hair. That said, don't file Glaze solely under 'fun' because it looks cute and you can buy it in Superdrug. Founder Hind Sebti, ex of L'Oréal and now behind luxury body, skin and fragrance brand Whind, is a business powerhouse to be reckoned with. If she has a hand in something you can expect it to be thoughtful and efficacious, too. 'The hair colour category in particular hasn't evolved in over 50 years. Glaze was born to revitalise the market with high-performance, eco-friendly hair products that offer superior care and easy application,' she said.

But back to Mirrorglaze, which is extending not just my newly-sleek home blow-dries but the time between booking my next styling appointment with a pro. And that, for a time-poor and frizz-prone beauty editor is the dream, isn't it?
