Billie Eilish Shows Off New Hair Colour And The Blonde Has Officially Gone
Updatd 3/12/21: Billie Eilish has gone back to black and ditched the blonde hair – for now at least.
On December 2 the 'Happier Than Ever' star shared a photograph of her new hair colour on Instagram with the caption: 'Miss me?'
The 19-year-old later shared a photograph on her Instagram Stories of a close up of her fringe. 'Guess what,' she captioned the shot.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair the award-winning singer opened up about being recognised in public as a then-blonde.
'Per week, if I am going to stuff, it’s like anywhere I go,' she said. 'But if I’m being cautious and like not trying to be in everybody’s faces, that’s like I can manage my way around people without them noticing, which is cool,' she told Vanity Fair.
'And my hair is blonde now. So it’s not like the only person you’ve ever seen with green hair walking by… It’s gotten a lot easier,' she added. 'But if I go out, I mean, it’s always gonna happen. It’s just that I’m, first of all, fine with it. And I’m very happy about it. And also, I just know how to do it now.'
Updated 5/10/21: Having warmed to her bleach blonde hair for a few months now, working her way through a fringe, Miley-esque mullet and shorter bob, Billie Eilish has spoken out about the real reason she switched up her hair in the first place.
Previously known for her signature slime green roots and black lengths, Eilish's transformation into a Marilyn-esque blonde made waves earlier this year with her 93 million Instagram followers.
After wearing a 'Halloween wig' for weeks while colourist Lissa Ren carefully transitioned the singer's neon and jet black hair to the perfect shade of creamy white blonde, Eilish finally revealed her icy new look alongside her 'Happier Than Ever' album launch.
But, it now seems that the 19-year-old's dramatic transformation had a deeper meaning than simply changing up her aesthetic.
Speaking to ELLE US, Eilish explained that there was a more emotional reason behind dyeing her hair blonde. 'I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity,' the Glastonbury headliner said in reference to her previous acid green look, with things changing drastically once it had gone:
'I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, "No, I can’t take off my hood!" I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had. But my friend was like, "Don’t worry: you’re okay. Nothing’s gonna happen." And I took my hood off, and I felt like a new person.'
Updated 11/05/21: Billie Eilish reveals that she wore a 'Halloween wig' for weeks before debuting her new blonde locks.
In a remote interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday May 10, the singer admitted that she kept her bouncy blonde blowdry hidden during another interview with the host in March.
'There have been a lot of rumours out on the Internet and I want you to settle something for me. When you were last here on the show, were you in fact wearing a Billie Eilish wig?' questioned Colbert during their most recent interview.
'Steve, I was just as blonde then as I am now. I was wearing a Billie Eilish wig. I was, I was, I was,' Eilish admitted.
The singer then explained that the process to transform her infamous slime green locks into bleach blonde waves was done slowly in order to preserve her hair's integrity.
'So from black to blonde is a big thing and to do it right and to do it where you're not murdering your hair and keeping it healthy, I did the first process. And then waited like two weeks so that it could kind of heal and then again and waited two weeks and waited a week, and blah blah blah. I just knew it would have these processing periods where it would look insane,' Billie explained.
'And I didn't want to look insane, but I needed something quick. So I literally ordered a Billie Eilish Halloween costume wig on Halloween,' she explained whilst laughing.
'It was awful, it was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. It was literally a fully black wig, like this long,' she said continued whilst demonstrating the wig's length.
When asked whether or not if the dress -up Billie Eilish wig made it to the Grammys, the singer reassured the host that after seeing the wig she went on to have one professionally created.
'I wasn't trying to play a prank on the Internet. "Oh, god, is she Hannah Montana." No, I just looked f***ing crazy underneath and I needed to look not crazy,' she concluded.
Updated 20/04/21: Since revealing a brand new white blonde look just over a month ago, Billie Eilish has leant into her new beauty persona with 100% commitment.
Having spent six weeks transforming her signature neon green roots and black lengths to a creamy ice blonde, Eilish is embracing her new, simpler 'do.
In fact, in the singer's latest Instagram post the grungey black and green colour scheme and Gucci bucket hats are gone, replaced by a retro style cardigan and bouncy blowdry eerily reminiscent of Dolly Parton.
In the post Eilish is working her biggest hair yet complete with layers and a full fringe. Paired with a cream embroidered Gucci cardigan and a matching pearl necklace and drop earrings, the 'No Time To Die' singer looks seriously ladylike.
The Grammy award-winner captioned the post 'things are comingggg' leading her excitable fans wondering whether the image could be a teaser for a new album cover shoot.

Updated 05/04/21: Billie Eilish has explained why she kept her blonde hair a secret for so long and shared her thoughts on her new hair colour.
During a recent Instagram Q&A, a fan asked why the singer didn’t want to share her new look sooner after it was rumoured that she had been wearing wigs and hid her new locks for around two months, including at the 2021 Grammys.
‘Cause it took six weeks to accomplish,’ she replied, alongside a photo of the hair do’ mid transformation.
Another follower asked: ‘Does your hair feel healthy or damaged after the bleaching process?’
‘Honestly so healthy and I wasn't expecting that at all,’ Eilish replied. ‘It's actually healthier than it's been in a longggggggg time. [sic]’
Between her now signature lime green roots and jet black lengths, her never ending stream of next level acrylic nail art and her relatable ways of ending up with an accidental mullet, Billie Eilish has swiftly become the ultimate bold beauty icon.
Having previously worked every hairstyle from super long and silver, to a moody misty blue with a choppy fringe, the Grammy award-winning singer has finally ditched her famous neon root smudge that inspired a generation of reverse dip dyes for something a little simpler.
Yup, Billie Eilish has officially bleached her hair and gone 100% blonde.
After rocking her go-to black and green look on the Grammys red carpet just a few days ago (albeit tucked under a Gucci bucket hat), it seems the US songwriter has ditched it once and for all, taking to Instagram to show off her new platinum blonde look.
The candid Instagram post showed the 19-year-old with all over bleach blonde hair cut into a choppy shag. In true quirky Eilish style, the post was pithily captioned 'pinch me', as if the star herself couldn't quite believe her new look.
Inevitably, her 77 million Instagram followers were shocked by Eilish's platinum new look, with A-list friend and fellow Grammy Award winner Megan Thee Stallion commenting, '😍😍😍😍😍 ', while Yara Shahidi, Skai Jackson and Jameela Jamil also showed their love for the new blonde.
The musician swiftly took to her Instagram stories to reveal her new look, posting a series of selfies with the words, 'BYE GREEEEEN [sic]'.
Despite sporting her trademark black and green look for the Grammy awards just days ago, it turns out the 'No Time To Die' singer was actually wearing a wig whilst her blonde hair was in progress.
The woman behind Eilish's blonde transformation, colourist Lissa Renn, revealed on Instagram that the dyeing process from start to finish actually took six weeks, hence the wig wearing at this week's Grammys.
In a now-deleted post Renn went into detail about the strenuous process of transforming Eilish's black hair to icey blonde:
‘The process is real when you’re doing it right. 6 weeks to get all the black out of her ends without damaging it, along with her following my strict haircare regime. We actually loved all the stages of lifting the color too but the end result is 🔥'
Could this be the start of a whole new aesthetic era for Billie Eilish? Watch this space.
