BGT judges' most shocking dresses – from 'nearly naked' to one that broke complaints record

Britain's Got Talent is one of ITV's most talked about shows, but it's not just the unique acts which get viewers talking. Over the years, judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon have become a big point of discussion - mainly thanks to their incredible outfits on the talent show.

Amanda, 53, and Alesha, 45, both always put on a stylish display on the panel, where they sit alongside fellow judges Simon Cowell and Bruno Tonioli. However, some of their riskier outfits have seen dozens of complaints made to broadcast regulator Ofcom, as well as ITV.

From Amanda's record-breaking gown to Alesha's statement suit, here we take a look at some of the most controversial outfits on the BGT panel...

Amanda's 'naked' dress

Amanda risked Ofcom complaints with her risque dress at the 2024 semi-finals on Thursday, 30 May. The 53 year old sported a golden wet look dress, which featured a plunging neckline and a cut out across the back.

She shared snaps of her look on social media and fans were full of praise. One wrote: "Golden Holden, this dress is beautiful and you are beautiful in it." While another added: "It looks absolutely amazing."

Alesha's racy jumpsuit

Alesha sparked controversy back in 2016, when she sported a revealing jumpsuit one of the semi-finals. The striking outfit, by designer Sergio Hudson, featured a gold plunging top and wide legged black trousers, along with a belt.

It was reported at the time that Alesha's look, along with Amanda's from the same show, led to 19 complaints to Ofcom. The broadcasting regulator said it had assessed a number of complaints about the "suitability" of the pair's outfits but would be taking no further action.

A spokesperson for Ofcom commented: "The dresses worn by the judges did not raise issues under our rules on nudity, and the judges were not portrayed in a sexualised way."

Amanda's record-breaking gown

In 2017, Amanda's £11,000 Julian McDonald gown made history as it sparked a record-breaking 663 Ofcom complaints. The risque dress featuring a plunging neckline which reached near to Amanda's belly button, along with sheer detailing across the arms and skirt.

Reflecting on the backlash, Amanda previously said: "That dress was hysterical it was Julien Macdonald. I had bits of fish wire underneath my breasts trying to hold that together. But, look, I'm from a small-chest family, plus you know I'm 48 years old. It's all quite laughable, but all everyone seems to talk about. It's been called another national crisis but, oh no, I will not be covered up."

2015 final dresses

At the 2015 BGT final both Alesha and Amanda sparked complaints with their revealing outfits. The pair's dresses reportedly led to Ofcom and ITV receiving hundreds of complaints from viewers.

Alesha wore a daring gown by Michael Costello, which featured a plunging neckline and slit up the leg. Meanwhile, Amanda modelled a flowing dress, also with a plunging neckline.

Ofcom is said have received around 90 complaints about the two outfits, with ITV receiving even more complaints. Ofcom later cleared the outfits, saying it considered the judges to be "appropriately covered".

Alesha's bra

Alesha rocked a stunning tangerine orange suit on BGT in 2022, paired with a khaki knitted bralet and chunky jewellery. While she looked undeniably stylish, some viewers were left puzzled by her choice to wear a bra on judges panel.

"Just switched over to #BGT Can someone get Alesha a cardi…it’s much too bloody cold for a spangly bikini top right now!" one person wrote at the time. Another said: "It's any wonder you're cold sat in a bra Alesha #BGT."

"Was Alesha dragged of her holiday in Marbella to do this show? #BGT," a third joked. A fourth said: "Is Alesha halfway through getting dressed, or halfway through getting undressed? #BritainsGotTalent."

'Risky' latex number

In 2022, Amanda divided BGT fans when she arrived at the auditions in London sporting a hot pink later dress. The risky number featured a square neckline and long sleeves, and the judge paired it with matching pink shoes.

While some loved the outfit, others questioned her choice. One person wrote on social media at the time: "What on earth possessed you to wear a rubber sex-dress @AmandaHolden? This is a family show, not Only Fans. I have switched this filth off #BGT."
