Beyond Paradise season three has received an exciting update.

The BBC has confirmed that filming on the Death in Paradise spin-off's upcoming third season has officially started, following the show's renewal in April.

The new batch of episodes promises to keep the Shipton Abbott team, led by DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), on their toes with plenty of intriguing new cases, including a body that's found in the river, a "baffling" chocolate box poisoning, a "historic farming feud" and a "spiking incident" on the water.

Meanwhile, away from the police station, Martha (Sally Bretton) and Humphrey must "overcome unexpected hurdles as foster parents".

Their fostering journey isn't made any easier by the reappearance of Martha's old flame, Archie Hughes, which stirs up some more challenges for the couple.

Jamie Bamber is set to reprise his role as Archie, who was last seen in the show's first season.

Elsewhere, Esther will navigate a "surprise encounter in her private life, a health scare for Anne stirs up painful memories, and Kelby embarks on a journey of personal growth."

Zahra Ahmadi is set to reprise her role as DS Esther Williams, alongside fellow returning cast members including Barbara Flynn as Anne Lloyd and Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford.

Rounding out the returning ensemble are Felicity Montagu as Margo Martins, Jade Harrison as CS Charlie Woods, and Melina Sinadinou as Zoe Williams.

"We are delighted to be back in the beautiful South West, filming what promises to be our strongest series yet, packed full of mysteries, surprises, challenges and lots of heart," Tim Key, executive producer at Red Planet Pictures, said of the crime drama's return.

"We love making the show and the audience response to it is fantastic, and it's especially exciting to welcome back Jamie Bamber to Shipton Abbott – we can't wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to."

Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
