Beyoncé Donates A Million Dollars To Black-Owned Businesses

Two days before her 39th birthday, Beyoncé's foundation, BeyGOOD, announced that it would be donating $1 million (£750,000) to Black-owned small businesses that have been affected by COVID-19.

'Proud to announce $1M in additional funds from Beyoncé to help Black-owned small businesses,' the foundation announced via Instagram. 'Round two of funding opens this month, with our partner NAACP.'

The donation is another collaboration with the NAACP, with whom the foundation previously worked with earlier this summer in order to give $10,000 (£761.786) to Black-owned small businesses across the country that were negatively affected by the pandemic and the recent protests against racism and police brutality.

'Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the Black community and across the country has been felt in every imaginable area of our lives, including in how our local businesses continue to operate,' the NAACP said in a statement at the time.

'The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs.'

The pool of potential applicants for the Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund must provide their property damage or replacement estimates, as well as be located in Houston, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, or Minneapolis.

Back in April, Beyoncé again donated to COVID-19 relief efforts, with a $6 (£4.55) million BeyGOOD donation to mental health facilities across the country.
