The best vintage moments on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet
The 2023 Met Gala was always going to be an interesting one. With the theme centring around Karl Lagerfeld, there was ample opportunity to embrace a little vintage red-carpet fashion, something which has been a growing trend at the Met Gala, and on the red carpet more generally, in recent years.
A number of the famous guests chose to wear creations by the man himself, looking into the archives of Chanel, Chloé and Karl Lagerfeld to find their Met Gala looks, while a number of stars chose to have dresses recreated based on iconic catwalk moments from his time at these fashion houses.
Below, we round up the best vintage and vintage-inspired moments on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet.

For a famous supermodel who worked with Karl so much in the Nineties and Noughties, there was really only one choice; vintage Chanel. This is the road that Naomi Campbell went down for the 2023 Met Gala, choosing a beautiful satin gown from Chanel's spring/summer 2010 couture collection.

Dua Lipa also delved into the Chanel couture archives, choosing a white tweed gown which had first been worn by Claudia Schiffer on the couture catwalk in 1992.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen also found a Chanel bridal look for the occasion. She chose the final look from the spring/summer 2007 couture catwalk.

Nicole Kidman dipped into her own Chanel archive for the occasion, wearing the same beautiful couture gown that she had worn in the Baz Luhrmann-directed fragrance advert that she appeared in back in 2004.

Although Olivia Wilde's dress was not technically vintage, it was created for her by current Chloé creative director Gabriela Hearst who had based the dress on a design from the 1983 Chloé collection.

British actress Vanessa Kirby also honoured Karl by wearing a look inspired by his time at Chloé. The gown – nicknamed the 'shower' dress thanks to its dramatic back – was from that same spring/summer 1983 collection.
