Our wine expert tried 8 mulled wines to find their favourite and their pick of the bunch only costs £5.
Nothing evokes the smell of Christmas more than the delicious spiciness of mulled wine. More supermarkets than ever are jumping on the Christmas trend for ready-to-heat mulled wine, but which is the best?
On the hunt for a mulled wine with balance, depth, a pronounced fruity note and a touch of spice, Alex tried the supermarket offerings to find the best mulled wine for 2020.
EXPERT TIP: For a bespoke flavour, add a splash of spiced rum, ginger wine or cherry brandy to your pan of mulled wine. These wines can also be spiked with slices of orange and cinnamon sticks.
Most mulled wines are relatively low in alcohol, ranging between 8-11%, compared to a regular red wine at 12-14.5%.
