The best feminist podcasts for teens
Parents love podcasts. They’re informative, they’re enlightening and even though it involves teens wearing headphones, they’re far preferable to endless hours of screen time (especially when said screen time consists of hours spent trawling social media).
There are plenty of feminist podcasts to educate and inspire, teaching girls about remarkable women in history or how real women overcame challenges to launch their businesses or land their dream jobs.

Who: Fearne Cotton
What: Teens have all kinds of emotions, and often, they don’t know how to cope with them. Happy Place tackles those feelings of malaise or disappointment that we’ve all experienced at times and ways to overcome any issues we’re having – through discussions with celebs who have dealt with their own mental demons and insecurities. Fearne talks to inspiring individuals like Russell Brand, Alexandra Shulman and Tom Daley, so we get a sense of their struggles and how they’re coping. Essential listening for teens to know that they’re not alone – no matter what they’re feeling.

What: Women of the Hour
Who: Lena Dunham
What: What we love about Lena Dunham is that she even manages to make shoutouts to her advertising partners on this podcast hilarious – they’re worth listening to before the podcast even begins. Women of the Hour ended in 2017 but there are plenty of episodes for teens to get engrossed in, where Lena opens up about all things personal, from friendship to love to sickness – she even speaks candidly about her own health issues, like her battle with endometriosis. With celebrity contributors (Emma Stone, Zadie Smith) – who act as occasional agony aunts – there’s plenty to appeal here. Even if you’re not a fan of Girls.

Who: Politico‘s Anna Palmer
What: Think of this as weekly careers advice from women who made it – as well as an inside peek at their varying paths to success, the challenges they faced and tips for women who might one day follow in their footsteps. The women interviewed all have varied and interesting careers that aren’t often in the spotlight, like secretary of the US Air Force, Heather Wilson and Julie Kent, artistic director of the Washington Ballet.
