What are Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Black Friday started out in the US and didn't come to the UK until 2010, despite being a long-standing event across the pond. Since then, it has morphed into one of the biggest shopping events on the calendar for bargain-hunters, alongside Prime Day and the January sales.
Most UK retailers now take part in Black Friday, usually reducing prices on a wide range of products in flash sales that last for anywhere between several weeks to just 24 hours. Deals usually remain live throughout the weekend up 'til Cyber Monday – the day brands traditionally began their online discounts. This year, Cyber Monday falls on Monday, 27 November.
It's a great way to nab a bargain on investment pieces that you've had your eye on, or make savings on some early Christmas shopping.
When is Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2023?
Black Friday traditionally falls on the day after Thanksgiving, the American holiday that is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November every year.
This year, Black Friday landed yesterday, on 24 November 2023, although most sales started earlier in the month. Some, but not all, will continue through to Cyber Monday on 27 November 2023.
