The best après ski in Wengen
Nightlife is less plentiful in Wengen when compared with other big-name Swiss resorts like Verbier and Zermatt, but many of the hotels have cosy bars or elegant lounges, and there are a few lively spots both on and off the mountain.
Away from the bars, there’s plenty to do off the slopes, including tobogganing from the Wengernalp rail station, curling, ice skating, swimming and winter walking, as well as a cinema.
For further Wengen inspiration, see our guides to the resort's best accommodation and restaurants.
Start Bar
At the top of the Wixi chairlift at Lauberhorn, Start Bar marks the start of the legendarily challenging World Cup run. With music (sometimes live) on sunny days, it makes a great pitstop on the way back down to Wengen – grab a deckchair with a view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Good to know: there’s a blue run to town as well as the black.

Spycher Bar
The Berghaus Männlichen mountain restaurant at 2,230m has a huge terrace served by the Spycher bar, also with views of the fab three iconic mountains. Time it right and there might be afternoon live music or a DJ and dancing. Aim to get the last cable car down to Wengen as the only ski route is via Grindelwald, then train.

Schneebar Figeler
At the foot of the nursery slopes next to the Männlichen cable car, Figeler is the place in town to stop in a deckchair at the end of a sunny day, listening to tunes and sipping a hot chocolate, spiked coffee – Baileys and Malibu is a favourite – or glühwein.

Popular with a good-natured mixed crowd, Sina's starts low key and gets louder as the night progresses. Music every evening plus a varied event menu of DJs, live music and karaoke.

Hotel Falken bar
The bar of one of Wengen’s original hotels, the Falken, built in 1895 and still run by the same family, is like stepping back into a piece of history. Chill out among old photos of Wengen, creaky wooden floorboards, mismatched original furniture and often live piano music too.

Pickel
The dimly lit, low-key vibe of Pickel, in the Restaurant Eiger, is lovely for a pre dinner drink or a couple of late night glasses. Serves a good selection of tapas as well as drinks including cocktails and fine wine.
