Berluti Men’s Spring 2025: Wedding Sneakers, but Make It Chic

When Rupert Murdoch got married earlier this month, commentators focused less on the fact that it was his fifth time down the aisle, or that he is 26 years older than his wife, than on his decision to wear sneakers.

“Are Wedding Sneakers the Ultimate Power Flex?” asked The New York Times in a typically soul-searching piece.

If only the media mogul had opted for Berluti’s Fast Track trainers. Combining a formal shoe’s leather upper with a sneaker sole, they are the ultimate hybrid style for power players in need of a little extra comfort.

The brand is all about dressing from the feet up. For spring, its signature Alessandro oxford and Andy loafer were joined by a range of more casual designs.

Berluti may be known for its elongated shoes in colorful patinas, but times are changing, so it, too, is loosening up. A mineral blue version of its Icaria sandal was worn with a light gray linen suit and white T-shirt, but it would work just as well with one of the brand’s linen sailor tops embroidered with its signature Scritto motif.

The new iteration of its Oslo derby, which telegraphs a more outdoorsy vibe, was paired with a blouson jacket in faded olive-colored leather, one of several standout styles in intriguing hues ranging from a vibrant lavender to a deep kingfisher blue.

Meanwhile, for those out-of-office days, the comfy Escale slipper was matched with a pajama-style embroidered linen set.

Berluti, which is dressing Team France for the opening ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, presented the collection at the Fondation Simone et Cino Del Duca, housed in a 19th-century private mansion, where visitors were greeted by a vintage Alfa Romeo parked in the driveway.

Scattered among the racks of clothing were furniture and art by the likes of Philippe Hiquily and Jean Touret. It was smart to anchor the brand in a highbrow cultural setting, since the presentation was focused less on seasonal trends, and more on the longevity of its designs.

Like the craftspeople that patiently apply its trademark patinas, Berluti is forever polishing and refining its classics. With this versatile lineup, it proved that you can do that without staying stuck in the past.
